Out of sight out of mind ! Gutters or gutters are not always easily accessible and yet they require regular maintenance.
When to clean your gutters?
The ideal is to clean your gutters twice a year, in the fall and in the spring. In the fall, the leaves fall and may clog your gutters, or even damage them due to their weight! Spring follows winter and its inclement weather, predatory on your gutters and their good health.
How to clean them?
A few tips…
A good gutter cleaning requires a few precautions and several steps!
Be careful not to lean your ladder against the gutter and to place yourself far from any electrical installation. It is also advisable to move the base of your ladder a few meters away from the wall to avoid falling backwards and to protrude it from your roof so that you can easily access your gutter.
Start by removing and throwing away anything that may clog your gutter;
Test the correct flow of water in your drains;
Plug your pipes and fill them with water: this will allow you to check that your gutter is not leaking;
Check the state of the fixing of the various elements of your gutter and their interlocking.
And some tools:
There is equipment suitable for cleaning gutters sold in DIY stores. The use of gloves and a water jet is recommended in all cases.
Some tools will allow you to attach your ladder or hang a bin for your tools and trash. The cylindrical brushes will allow you to clean the inside of your gutters. Other specific tools for this task will allow you to do it from the ground using extension cords. Some accessories are available to prevent waste from invading your gutters.
The possible consequences
are in an irregular interview
Without this frequent cleaning, humidity and odors can set in, the tightness can decrease to the point of forcing you to replace your gutter or to carry out often expensive repairs, or even to face deterioration of your roof and of your walls ...
The gutters collect rainwater to evacuate it. They must therefore not be blocked, cracked or badly connected. Maintaining your gutters is also an opportunity to check their condition.
Find a gutter pro in your neighborhood!
Whether it's doing it for you or giving you a helping hand, it's best to have someone else who can (at least) hold your ladder! Some professionals offer services on
measure since you choose the time, date, place and price of the cleaning according to your request. For example, you can access a network of individuals offering this type of service in their town and surroundings.
